Jungle Beach
Southern Province, Sri Lanka

The real Jungle Beach Unawatuna, however, is a small isolated beach close to Galle and Unawatuna Beach in Sri Lanka. We drove here with a tuk-tuk, on a narrow and steep path through the…..yep you got it…….Jungle!

Jungle Beach

Jungle Beach: Swimming
Jungle Beach is the perfect place to go swimming, with no waves or current. Low current makes it safe for children as well. This factor has made it popular among many foreigners. The forest around the beach gives the tourists a intimate experience which cannot be gained in any other place in Sri Lanka.

Jungle Beach: Cuisine
The first part of the beach, when entering the bay, is the most crowded one with sun beds and a small cafe/ restaurant serving some Sri Lankan dishes as well as sandwiches, drinks and snacks. It is however far less crowded than the main Unawatuna Beach.

Turtle Hatchery
The area on Sri Lanka’s west coast sees particularly high levels of sea turtles. Like everyone else, I wanted to see them on our visit to Sri Lanka. I had seen photos of these tiny little guys in the palms of peoples’ hands on Instagram. Buying a ticket to witness the work done by this organization which gives rehabilitation for injured turtles is a worthy cause on our hands as well. If you are lucky you will also have the opportunity free baby turtles to the sea.
